Volunteers of America Community Resource Case Managers collaborate with the SD Department of Social Services and are specifically dedicated to assisting youth with independent living. Young people who are currently in the custody of the Department of Social Services or were in DSS custody at age 18 are assisted with the following services:

• Start Up Kit Money
• College/Vo-Tech Tuition
• Rent, security deposit, and hook-up fee payment assistance
• Independent Living Workshops twice per year
• Four Day Teen Conference each summer
• Case Management services specifically targeted to independent living topics, such as employment, education, budgeting, cooking, transportation, housing, interpersonal skills and healthcare.
