Volunteers of America staff coordinate and oversee court ordered (including Teen Court) community service for Minnehaha, Lincoln and Pennington counties. Clients are required to attend an orientation group and are matched to an agency for completion of their required community service hours. Volunteers of America, Dakota’s program staff remains in constant contact with these agencies and report back to the client’s court service officer as to their progress.
In the Sioux Falls area Volunteers of America, Dakotas provides a Check-In Center with a positive outlet for those youth who need something to occupy their idle time, which is structured, productive and beneficial. It encourages healthy lifestyles, responsible living and social skills for their day-to-day living. The participants in this program are scheduled to attend specific programming or to attend daily activities at the Bowden Youth Center within a specified time frame. Their attendance is tracked and followed up on by the Department of Corrections, Court Services and the Juvenile Detention Center.
