Volunteers of America’s Tobacco Prevention Program focuses on reducing disease, disability, and death related to tobacco use by preventing the initiation of tobacco use among young people, promoting quitting among youth and adults, and eliminating nonsmokers’ exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.
Facilitation of tobacco prevention services are available through services such as:
- Technical assistance for program development and coalitions
- Tobacco prevention resources available in the Southeastern Prevention Resource Center (PRC) library
- Assistance to schools in the 15-county area in southeastern South Dakota
- Assistance to the medical and dental in the development of tobacco policies
- Resource to community and parent groups in the development of prevention
- Educational forums, councils, and networks
Resources include brochures, posters, videos, display items, reference books, games, curricula program ideas and information through forums, conferences, councils, and networks. The Tobacco Prevention Program also provides technical assistance on prevention activities to community groups, schools, professionals, parents, and youth.
