Youth and Family Intervention Project
Volunteers of America, Dakotas' Youth and Family Intervention Project is a prevention and early intervention program. It diverts youth and their families from involvement with the Juvenile Justice System by providing immediate crisis intervention at the time and place of a family dispute. Early intervention aims to resolve problems before they become severe. YFIP staff will provide services in tandem with local law enforcement, and the referral source, to prevent further involvement of the youth into the Juvenile Justice System.
Specifically, the YFIP aims to reduce the number of youth who are removed from their homes for status offenses. The program works to prevent family problems from escalating into further involvement with the Juvenile Justice System. The program also accepts self-referrals from youth or families in need.
