Book, 2014, Travis Lloyd, Grades 9-Adult
This book is a balance of personal stories and perspective that is humanized by telling the story of how trauma can play out in an individual. It is not only for professionals working with those who have experienced trauma, but for those who have experienced trauma themselves. The book can also have many applications for the systems child advocates and numerous children navigate in daily life, encapsulating what many operating in “survival mode” are actively living. Having worked as a mental health crisis worker, emergency room nurse, adjunct professor, and motivational speaker, Travis was once a product of the foster care system and feared he was headed to prison.
