Volunteers of America, Dakotas out-of-school programs offer a safe and enriching environment for children and youth ages 7-14 while they are out of school. Trained, professional staff empower youth to achieve their full potential by providing academic support, building character, promoting well-being, and removing barriers.
Our out-of-school time programs offer homework help and academic enrichment, as well as recreation, role modeling, and healthy snacks and meals. Our out-of-school time programs are open and transportation is provided for most students. Compassionate and committed staff are available for youth to turn to when they’re in need. Most importantly, our out-of-school time programs are available at no cost to families.
Volunteers of America, Dakotas’ out-of-school time programs provide targeted academic support. We work with the Sioux Falls School District to serve support students in need of additional help to get ahead and stay ahead in school. Staff from our out of school programs pick up students from Terry Redlin, Garfield, Hayward, Hawthorne, Laura B. Anderson, and Lowell Elementary Schools, the Elementary Immersion Center, and McGovern and Whittier Middle Schools, and transport them to the program every day. Our programs utilize evidence-based strategies aimed at promoting academic achievement. Staff provide educational activities, homework help, and tutoring.
Through these services, our out-of-school time programs aim to help students make improvements in math and reading while developing the social skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
