Volunteer

If you like to help people, you have come to the right place. With over 50 programs throughout the state of South Dakota, we're meeting unmet needs of individuals and families in the communities where we work. With the vast number of programs available to all ages, we are bound to have something that fits your interests and passion. We have many opportunities to volunteer from working directly with individuals in our programs to supporting the administrative work that it takes to help others (and many things in between)!

We have six service areas that encompass every stage and age of life:

  • Children, Youth & Families
  • Community Enhancement
  • Employment, Training & Disability
  • Housing & Homeless
  • Mental Health
  • Substance Abuse & Prevention

If you are going to be a volunteer, you can begin learning about the organization right now:

Volunteers of America, Dakotas is a large social service agency working to help people help themselves. Take a look around our Web site. There are many ways to become involved in our life-changing work! There are opportunities to volunteer in Brandon, Brookings, Watertown, Aberdeen, Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Even if you don't live in these communities, you can volunteer in your local community through the RSVP Program or the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP).

We Depend on Volunteers!

Volunteers are vital in the necessary and demanding work that we do responding to unmet needs of individuals and families in communities throughout South Dakota:

  • Volunteers help make our donation dollars and funding stretch to help more people in need.
  • Volunteers serve as mentors, care givers, cheerleaders, examples—giving hope to those who are struggling.
  • We work with all ages from babies to older adults. No matter your passion and interest, there is an opportunity for you to make a difference by volunteering!
  • We serve over 35,000 people every year in various ways!
