Since the 1920s, Volunteers of America, Dakotas has been serving those who need us the most. Troubled youth, families without child care, those struggling against addiction, the adolescent who can't return home can all turn to our supportive and empowering programs. We work with the most vulnerable people in the Dakotas, helping them rebuild whole lives, reach their potential, and become productive members of our communities. We focus on bringing higher levels of care and safety through safe, nurturing environments where individuals and families become healthy and self-sufficient.
Volunteers of America, Dakotas is called by the Gospel to guide people to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Since our humble beginnings in 1896, Volunteers of America’s goal has been to answer God’s call to transform the world through a ministry of service that feeds, clothes, shelters, and demonstrates to all people that they are beloved children of God.
Volunteers of America, Dakotas works with individuals of all faiths, races, and backgrounds in all 66 counties in South Dakota. Our ministry is one of service. We seek to serve the needs of the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) by bringing together the human service agency and the church. We provide assistance to people of all faiths and never require those we serve to participate in worship services or even to acknowledge specific beliefs. Yet all of our programs and services are motivated by and exemplify Christian beliefs and principles.
Our spiritually based organization has an onsite Chaplain, as well as several staff who are Commissioned Ministers. These individuals help us live out our ministry by serving as prayer partners, encouraging resources, and advisers to Volunteers of America, Dakotas.
