Volunteers of America, Dakotas is proud to announce that Dennis Hoffman has been recognized with the Volunteers of America National Leadership Excellence in Philanthropy Award, honoring his outstanding leadership, commitment to stewardship, and lasting impact on the communities we serve.
For more than a decade, Dennis has helped shape the direction of VOA Dakotas through a leadership approach grounded in faith, generosity, and service. After joining the organization in 2011 as Major Gifts Officer, serving as President & CEO from 2012 to 2026, and stepping into the Chief Development Officer role in March 2026, Dennis helped transform how VOA Dakotas approaches philanthropy, not simply as fundraising, but as an opportunity to connect people to a shared mission of serving others.
Under Dennis’ leadership, VOA Dakotas embraced a philosophy known as Raising Kingdom Resources, an approach that centers stewardship, relationship-building, gratitude, and generosity. His belief that philanthropy is about inviting people into meaningful work has influenced our staff, Board members, donors, volunteers, and community partners. Through his leadership, a culture of generosity has taken root throughout the organization, helping strengthen both our mission and the communities we uplift.
Dennis has also led significant efforts to secure resources that have expanded VOA Dakotas’ impact across the Sioux Falls community. His leadership helped advance the development of Cairn Campus, construction of Homeplace apartments for youth experiencing homelessness, growth of the VOA Dakotas endowment through the Foundation for Future Generations campaign, and the expansion of CHOICES day services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
While these accomplishments are significant, colleagues say Dennis’ greatest legacy is the culture he has helped build. Throughout his tenure, he has emphasized integrity, transparency, ethical stewardship, and a deep respect for every person who chooses to support VOA’s mission. His leadership has inspired others to see generosity not as an obligation, but as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
