Hair ‘Cutz’ for Child Care Kids

Kids at Volunteers of America, Dakotas Child Care got a special visit from 5 Star Cutz ‘N’ Salon recently! Tyrone Wilson, owner of the Sioux Falls-based salon, came to the child care center to give free haircuts to the children there. Volunteers of America, Dakotas Child Care primarily serves children from low-income families who might not otherwise have access to a professional cut. When he heard this, Tyrone knew he wanted to help. “Everybody is always thinking about shoes, bags and clothes and they forget about a simple haircut and how good it makes a kid feel going in with a fresh haircut.”

Mary Decker, Child Care Coordinator, says the haircuts made a big difference for the families served. “The children who received the haircuts left feeling very good about themselves.”

Tyrone hopes his work at the child care center will inspire others in the community to give back. “It’s all about locking arms with each other and keeping the community tight. I encourage anybody who has got a talent, whether it’s cutting hair or dancing…to give back in that way.”
