Fentanyl Update: The Deadliest Opioid Is Killing Teens

DVD, HRM, 2023, 19 minutes, Grades 7-College

This 2023 update of Fentanyl: The Deadliest Opioid (recommended by School Library Journal and by Video Librarian) provides the latest information on the fentanyl epidemic and spiking fentanyl overdose deaths in teens. Fentanyl is cheap and powerful, so illicit drug manufacturers add it to street drugs of all kinds including heroin, marijuana, and counterfeit prescription opioid drugs disguised to look like candy (“rainbow” fentanyl). For teen users, the combination is proving deadly because with street drugs they never know what they’re getting; and, just a few grains of fentanyl can kill. Viewers will learn how social media impacts the crisis and how Narcan is being used to counteract overdose. This program speaks directly to young people to expose the hidden dangers of fentanyl-laced drugs. The subject of fentanyl test strips is covered in the Teacher’s Resource Book.
