Getting Your Second Wind: Living a Smoke-Free Life A Kid’s Guide to Saying No to Smoking, Activity Book, Grades 4-8
When they are in elementary school, most children have a strong dislike for cigarette smoking. However, some kids cannot fight off the urge to experiment with smoking. This user-friendly book was written to help kids to recognize the reasons why they may be tempted to smoke, as well as the many reasons why they should resist this temptation.
The vocabulary, illustrations, and limited number of words on each page will make the first part of this book inviting and helpful to children in their understanding of making good choices.
The second part focuses on practical ideas children can use to better cope with the temptation to smoke. The student selects areas of concern and completes the activities which will help the child explore what needs to be done to best cope.
Suggestions to parents, administrators, teachers, and counselors are provided in part three. This book can be used independently by upper elementary and middle school students. However, when adults read and discuss this book with them, the suggestions are fully discussed and they are encouraged to follow through with the coping strategies provided.
