Toxic Life Cycle of a Cigarette The

DVD, 2015, HRM, 17 minutes, Grades 7-College

This DVD examines ways that cigarettes are toxic to the environment and to people in ways that individuals usually haven’t considered. Viewers hear from young farm workers who have been sick due to tobacco poisoning both from pesticides and the nicotine in the plants. The DVD explains how around 600 chemical additives are included in the process of cigarette making ¬ì many to make the tobacco more addictive. Secondhand smoke harms are explained including a newly named concern, third hand smoke. It is a residue left in carpets, walls, on furniture and window coverings that poses a long term health risk after the tobacco use is over. The toxic effects of cigarette butts on the environment is described as well.
